About Forest Row
Forest Row is a lovely village near Ashdown Forest in Wealden District, East Sussex. An unusual claim to fame is that Forest Row was visited by none other than former USA President John F Kennedy on June 30 1963, not long before he was killed in Dallas, Texas. He attended Catholic mass at Our Lady of the Forest church with Harold Macmillan, prime minister at the time, who lived near the Red Lion at Chelwood Gate. The president stayed for a 40-minute service, which had no sermon as time was short, and he shook hands with people afterwards. Forest Row has a wonderful mix of architectural styles, which somehow work well together, and are very pleasing to the eye for both residents and also visitors who may be passing through this tranquil part of East Sussex.
